La topografia di Himera attraverso l’archeologia
Abstract
The research conducted in Himera in different areas of the colonial settlement provides
us with an essential layout of the historical topography of the city, its extension,
urban layouts, and spaces intended for both sacred and public activities.
In recent years, the landscape outside the settlement has been put together by defining
the main city necropolises, located along the natural routes out of the colony towards
the coast and inland. Thanks to the discovery of a large extra-urban port district close
to the mouth of the Imera Settentrionale river and the study of the topographicalcomponents
of the settlement it is now possible to define the emporium of the colony,
which was intended to accommodate the main commercial activities of Himera.
