Due fontane a scalette ‘riscoperte’ nelle collezioni Capitoline

Claudia Ferro, Davide Gangale Risoleo

Abstract

This paper addresses the ‘rediscovery’ of two stepped fountains belonging to the collections of the Musei Capitolini. One specimen with multiple ladders
was discovered by the authors in the Antiquarium Comunale deposits at the Museo della Civiltà Romana and has not been previously published.
Another, with a single ladder, is currently housed in the Centrale Montemartini Museum deposits. It has been interpreted as a base by Henry Stuart Jones
and was published in his Catalogue but has not been republished since. The two artefacts permit an update of the list of fountains from Rome belonging
to this particular type. The picture is completed by a third fountain, recently discovered at a villa along the via Anagnina, which was not considered in
more recent surveys.
