Il sistema fognario del Foro di Cesare: il progetto cesariano e le modifiche augustee alla luce delle indagini eseguite nel 2022 e nel 2024

Abstract

The sewer system of the Caesar’s Forum, investigated in 2022 and 2024, made it possible to reconstruct the rainwater drainage system of the Forum, in
connection with the Cloaca Maxima, and to analytically study of the materials from the filling of sewer B. The resulting data has implications for defining
Augustus’ extensive urban project in this area of the valley. In fact, archaeological evidence indicates that Augustus carried out a unitary intervention
that modified the architectural layout of the southern side of the Forum of Caesar, which was still incomplete, also creating the connecting hinge between
the Forum of Caesar and the Forum of Augustus. In this context, even the construction of the Curia and the restoration works on the Basilica Aemilia
and the Cloaca Maxima should also be included.
