I PAESAGGI FUNERARI DI NEAPOLIS NELL’OTTICA DI STRABONE: OCCUPAZIONE DELLO SPAZIO E IDENTITÀ CULTURALE

Raffaella Bosso

Abstract

The contribution focuses on the funerary evidence attesting to the Hellenic presence in Neapolis between the 5th century B.C. and the Augustan age and its interaction with other groups, notably Campanians and Romans. The sharp increase in archaeological evidence from the second half of the 4th century and throughout the 3rd century B.C. testifies to the centrality of Neapolis, an “open city” with a strong commercial vocation. At the same time, the necropolises of the city’s chora contain very different grave goods from those of the tombs serving the city, which can be compared with those from the areas populated by Campanians.

Key-Words : Neapolis, Graeca Urbs, grave goods, chora
