Note di etimologia serviana: due casi di interpretazioni complementari nel commento ad Aen. I

Alessio Ruta

Abstract

In his commentary on the Aeneid, Servius offers two etymological interpretations of the name
Achates (Aen. 1,174 and 312) and of the epithet of Venus Acidalia (Aen. 1,720). These interpretations,
despite their divergences, are shown to be complementary and functional to the
exegesis of the narrative context.

Key-words: Servius, Virgil, Aeneid, names, etymology.
