I magisteri murari dell’Abruzzo Citeriore. Conoscenza e conservazione
Abstract
The analysis of historical construction techniques represents a crucial component for architectural restoration, constituting a
privileged cognitive moment thanks to the correspondence between documentary and material sources.
The essay is part of a national and regional research having the aim to create a database of historical buildings, comparing sources
to architectural artefacts through surveys drafting and historical architecture heritage cataloguing.
The relationships’ network-oriented attitude towards the study on the texture of the built environment increases awareness and
critical sense, avoiding neglected architecture to disappear due to the application of restoration methods incompatible with the
historical buildings.
This awareness pushed the research to “listen to” architectural heritage, in order to seize models and processes related to minor
architecture, focusing on continuity rather than on exceptionality, smartly adapting to traditional construction systems rather
than passively adopting new ones.
Keywords : Masonry construction techniques, widespread architectural heritage, restoration, conservation, restoration, Abruzzo.
