Trasformazioni sei-settecentesche di un compendio medievale: il caso dell’insediamento dei Domenicani a San Nicola dei Prefetti in Campo Marzio
Abstract
The paper, supported by new documentary acquisitions, examines the post-medieval transformations of the urban cluster of the
church of “San Nicola dei Prefetti” and the neighboring conventual buildings.
Alongside some novel hypothesis on the 17th century development of facade and interiors of the church, it is highlighted – with
regard to the conventual buildings – an example of the skillful integration between architectural stance and functional requirements
which characterized the works of the roman architects, mostly in the eighteenth century.
Regarding the site’s urban history, it is also examined an aunknown Insula belonging to the powerful and prestigious Order of
the Domenicans.
Keywords : Conventual architecture, S. Nicholas of the Prefects, Dominicans, insula, Campo Marzio.
