Piedi nell’acqua e testa Vicino agli dei: ritratto della città ideale nel De architectura di Vitruvio
Abstract
Placing the theory of architecture within a system of mental
representation that appeared in the Hellenistic age, Vitruvius
contrasts two anthropomorphic representations to give the image of
the ideal city: the urbanization of Mount Athos proposed by
Dinocrates to Alexander and the description of Halicarnassus
built by Mausolus. Both convey the same message - the city is an
organism of which man is the only measure - and illustrate the
notion of humanity: a dynamic of progress whose function is to
keep us in our place, halfway between animality and the divine.
