Ica e ita: un contributo alla discussione

Enrico Benelli

Abstract

The text inscribed on the golden tablet from Pyrgi CIE 6314 = ET Cr 4.4 begins with an indication of what the goddess Uni has received by Thefarie Velianas, ruler of Caere. The nouns defining the gifts are accompanied by the demonstratives ita and ica. The difference in meaning between ita and ica is not easy to grasp; previous research has made it clear that no reference is intended to the distance between the reader (or the speaker) and the object designated by either ica or ita. The present contribution puts forward a suggestion regarding the difference in meaning between ita and ica.

Keywords: Pyrgi; Etruscan language; Etruscan demonstratives
