L’USO DI MATTONI E BOLLI DI ETÀ ELLENISTICA IN CALABRIA E LA TOMBA CON VOLTA A BOTTE IN CONTRADA BASILEA DI LOCRI EPIZEFIRI

Carmelo Malacrino

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to offer an overview of the diffusion of Hellenistic fired bricks in Calabria, starting
from the main poleis of the region. The data relating to stamps offer important clues on the production system
and methods of use. Attention then turns to the archaeological context of Locri, where different types of
Hellenistic fired bricks are attested, generally reused in later buildings. Finally, some tombs show the adoption of
the architectural model with a brick structure with a vaulted roof.
