LA DOPPIA SPOLIAZIONE DEL TEMPLVM DI PROSERPINA A LOCRI EPIZEFIRI (204 E 200 A.C.). IL RICORSO ALLA GIURISPRUDENZA
Abstract
In this contribution, Franchini examines two famous cases of sacrilege, defined as the theft of sacred objects (the treasure)
from their location (the Temple of Proserpina in Locri). Although the author also discusses the criminal implications of
the events under examination, as well as the status of the territories and the city’s statute, his aim is to demonstrate that recourse
to the jurisprudence of the College of Pontiffs was essential to determine the measures by which the Republic could extinguish
the sacred responsibility it had incurred, inevitably because the sacrilegious thefts were attributable to Roman citizens.
