I DUE STATUTI ASSOCIATIVI IG II2 1368 E CIL XIV 2112 E GLI INSEGNAMENTI DI GESÙ NEL VANGELO DI MATTEO : COMPARAZIONI FRA DOCUMENTAZIONE EPIGRAFICA E FONTI NEOTESTAMENTARIE
Abstract
In recent decades, several studies, especially from the Anglo-Saxon world, have supported the identification of Christian communities
with the associations (or collegia) widespread in the Greco-Roman world of the first century. This article offers a comparative study
of two of the main association statutes that have survived through inscriptions, the statute of the Iobacchi (IG II2 1368) and that of the
collegium Lanuvinum (CIL XIV 2112), with the Gospel of Matthew, which focuses on the life of the Christian community more than the
other Synoptic Gospels. After a brief presentation of the comparative sources, the comparison focuses on several aspects of the life of
these groups: entry requirements and financial contributions, conflict resolution and management of transgressions, cultic activity, hierarchical
structure, and the pursuit of honor. The comparison highlights several differences between Greco-Roman associations and Christian
communities, without denying that they display some similarities.
