Le spese di un ambasciatore. Francesco Gaddi oratore fiorentino a Roma (aprile-maggio 1487)
Abstract
The Ambassador’s expenses. Francesco Gaddi Florentine Ambassador in Rome (April-May 1487)
Francesco Gaddi, Florentine ambassador to Rome in the spring of 1487, kept
a notebook of expenses during of his brief stay in the Urbe. The source thus makes it possible
to reconstruct, althoug in general terms, the course and costs of the daily life of a diplomatic
representative. The originality of the source goes hand in hand with the particular figure of
Gaddi, whose political and mercantile affirmation is retraced in its main stages in this contribution,
devoted to his Roman residence in 1487 through the information recorded by the protagonist
himself.
