I relitti di Capo Graziano: nuove considerazioni su alcuni contesti sommersi di Filicudi

Abstract

The promontory of Capo Graziano (Filicudi Island, ME) has long represented both a privileged – and perilous – passage along
the maritime routes of the southern Tyrrhenian Sea since antiquity. This paper presents the results of the most recent investigations
carried out in 2025 on the seabed surrounding the cape, aimed at improving knowledge and monitoring the condition of
the wrecks located in the area. Particular attention is devoted to two of them: Wreck “A”, dated in the later 2nd century BC, and
Wreck “E”, whose sinking most likely occurred in the final third of the 17th century. The wrecks of Filicudi “F” and Filicudi “B”,
both dated to the early 3rd century BC, are also briefly discussed. The new research confirms the high archaeological potential of
the area and highlights the need to implement sustainable strategies for protection and enhancement, with a view to creating an
underwater archaeological trail and promoting greater awareness among local communities towards the safeguarding of Filicudi’s
submerged cultural heritage.
