SPAZI SACRI E ARCHITETTURA A CAMIRO IN ETÀ ELLENISTICA
Abstract
The monumental centre of the city of Kamiros is organised on two large plateaus occupied by the sanctuary
of Athana and Zeus Polieus, the upper one, and the structures dedicated to Hestia in the lower one. The two
sanctuaries differ above all in their political purpose, the one on the acropolis being more open with banquet
halls and extensive attendance, the lower one reserved for the nobility with initiatory barriers and exclusive
spaces. The political management of the city is composed between these two administrative and religious
poles; the city takes on an articulated city configuration, whose large monumental spaces have a complex
social, political and religious function.
