Quel che resta del giorno: δάκτυλος ἀμέρα (Alcae. fr. 346. 1 V.)
Abstract
By recovering the witness of archaeologist Sir Charles T. Newton (dating to June 20th, 1853), paper’s aim is to confirm the pragmatic interpretation of the beginning of fragment 356 V. by Alcaeus. The author points out that the syntagm δάκτυλος ἀμέρα specifically refers to the practice of measuring the time left until sunset by hand fingers’ width. To support the reading, some remarks on style are eventually provided.
