Border zone sites: per una ricostruzione del comparto settentrionale degli Enotri in Basilicata attraverso una rilettura dei vecchi scavi

Linda Parisi

Abstract

In this contribution attention is focused on some sites in Basilicata located south of the Basento River, particularly
between the valleys of the Camastra and Salandrella torrents, which, until now, have been rather neglected in studies
in the field regarding the settlement of Oenotrian people, although they have been, already in the past, the subject of
archaeological investigations. The new data outline an area inhabited by the Oenotrians that includes, in relation to Basilicata,
no longer only the centers of the Agri and Sinni Valleys (Guardia Perticara, Aliano, Alianello, Chiaromonte),
but also the centers of Brindisi di Montagna, Anzi, Castelmezzano, Pietrapertosa, Monte Croccia, Garaguso, and San
Mauro Forte, all located on the right bank of the Basento, with material attestations since the Iron Age to the archaic
period. This Oenotrian territory fits into a “border” area with the “North-Lucanian” peoples to the north and those of
the Japigio-Peuceta culture to the northeast.
