Incoronata: il saggio N e i suoi reperti (scavi Orlandini 1981)

Fabio Coppo, Michele Milan

Abstract

More than fifty years after the University of Milan began its archaeological investigations at the site known as Incoronata
“Greca”, this brief overview presents the context and archaeological materials from the unpublished saggio N
(scavi Orlandini 1981). Given the sparse documentation related to the excavation, the proposed interpretation relies
primarily on the analysis of ceramic finds. Two uninterrupted phases can be identified. The first phase, which is strictly
Oenotrian, spans from the late 8th century B.C. to the early 7th century B.C. and is documented by five elliptical pits.
The second phase, occurring between the early and late 7th century B.C., is categorized as Oenotrian- Greek. It is, in
fact, marked by a combination of imported Greek vessels, locally manufactured Greek pottery, and, to a lesser extent,
Oenotrian pottery, along with fired bricks and stones. Lastly, the issue concerning the nature of the context is addressed
upon further examination of the most recent discoveries within the site.
