Una costituzione di Antonino Pio del 30 ottobre 139 d.C. per gli Auxilia della Dacia inferior. Un nuovo diploma militare in collezione privata

Gian Luca Gregori, Florian Matei-Popescu

Abstract

This paper concerns the edition of a new military diploma preserved in a private collection in Siena and belonged to the Thracian auxiliary soldier, Bithus the son of Bellus, from the tribe of the Bessi. He served in the ala Hispanorum, stationed in Dacia inferior on the orders of the prefect C. Gavius Sabinus. The diploma is dated 30 October 139 AD, under
the consulship of M. Salvius Carus and C. Iulius Scapula, when Iulius Aquila Fidus was governor.
He was enlisted in AD 114, when it seems like a larger dilectus was carried on in Thrace for the cavalry units from Moesia inferior, deployed at the north of the Danube, on the territory of the future province of Dacia inferior (see also the diploma from 13 December 140).
